Converting RGB to CMYK
RGB Color files consist of red, green and blue colors in order to display and show images on a screen or web pages. The files that consist RGB are not suitable for print unlike CMYK that represents different colors. CMYK Color files mix Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black colors, and you can print them in full color. We suggest you that set your artwork files to CMYK at the beginning of your files set up. In Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, you need to select the Print option for the files that you want to print and any RGB colors should be converted. Sometime, you are attracted to choose convert tgb to CMYK options in your design application, but this method may cause the most inaccurate results.
What is RGB?
The RGB color model is an increasable color model in which the red, green and blue are the main colors. These colors added together in different ways to make various colors. The name of RGB comes from the initials of the three colors: Red, Green, and Blue. The most important purpose of the RGB color model is for the representation of images in electronic systems, such as televisions and computers. Remember, different devices discover or reproduce RGB colors differently and this model is device dependent. Because the color elements such as phosphors or dyes and their response to the individual red, green, and blue levels different from system to system, or even in the same device they are different over time.
What is CMYK?
The CMYK colors is a subtractive color model used in printing. The abbreviation CMYK refers to the four colors of: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key for black. The CMYK model works partially or completely on a lighter, usually white, background. It is also called subtractive because inks “subtract” the colors red, green and blue from white light. White light minus red leaves cyan, white light minus green leaves magenta, and white light minus blue leaves yellow. But RGB colors are additive colors because they add all primary colored lights, and black is absent.
How to convert RGB to CMYK
If you are not sure about the best way to convert your design or work to CMYK or you do not have Adobe programs on your system and device, you can convert your RGB to CMYK online with the help of web pages such as Face converter. But the colors cannot be changed any after the conversion. When you upload RGB color files to your order, online system will automatically convert the color model from RGB to CMYK. So, you should check your proofs carefully before confirming your order in RGB to CMYK converter. You can follow these steps for converting your RGB files to CMYK:
Step1: Select your file or drag and drop it in to the box.
Step2: Click on the upload option to start uploading and converting.
Step 3: Now, you can easily receive and download your RGB file in CMYK one.
How to convert RGB to CMYK in Photoshop
Photoshop is not only good for saving and exporting your CMYK files in PDF, but also it is useful for converting your RGB images and designs to CMYK. In order to get a CMYK document in Photoshop, go to File and select New. In the New Document window, just change the color mode to CMYK. If you need to convert an image from RGB to CMYK, merely open the image in Photoshop. Then, go to Image > Mode and then select CMYK.
How to export RGB to CMYK files to Adobe
Adobe applications offer different adjustment in advance for exporting your file or files to PDF document after converting RGB to CMYK without losing its quality. Adobe Photoshop is one of the programs that also uses a Save As function for PDFs. Go to File > Save As and select Photoshop PDF from the Format menu. Then, you should click on Save As A Copy in order to keep away from losing any unsaved work.
In Illustrator, there is no option to export PDF files. Therefore, you have to select File > Save As and save a copy of your file as a PDF. There is an option named Save Destination, go there and select the Adobe PDF in the Format menu. In the Export Adobe PDF option, choose Press Quality, which will go to the settings that you need.
Therefore, in these processes you can export your RGB to CMYK files in PDF.
Is it possible to convert Hex to CMYK?
As you know, the colors on web page or screen can be displayed in three forms: in RGB format, in hexadecimal format (a hex triplet) or according to its common English name. Hex number used in HTML, CSS, SVG, and other computing applications for representing colors in social media, branding and web design. It is a six-digit or three-byte hexadecimal number. The bytes show the red, green and blue parts of the color. One byte represents a number in the 0 to 255 in decimal notation. For converting colors from HEX to CMYK, you must first convert hexadecimal code to decimal numbers and convert RGB to CMYK code.
For example, we want to convert hexadecimal code#32A852 by converting each of the pair to a decimal number:
32 = 50
A8 = 168
52 = 82
#32A852 = RGB (50, 168, 82)
Now, it is possible to convert this RGB to CMYK. First of all, we divide RGB values by 255 to change the range from 0 – 255 to 0 – 1, then we use the next heading formula for each color.
R => 0.2 = 50 / 255
G => 0.66 = 168 / 255
B => 0.32 = 82 / 255
For example, for the black color:
K = 1 – MAX (R, G, B):
K = 1 – MAX (0.2, 0.66, 0.32)
K = 0.34
For Cyan color (c):
C = (1 – R* – K) / (1 – K)
C = (1 – 0.2 – 0.34) / (1 – 0.34)
C = 0.7
For Magenta color (M):
M = (1 – G* – K) / (1 – K)
M = (1 – 0.66 – 0.34) / (1 – 0.34)
M = 0
And calculate the yellow color (Y):
Y = (1 – B* – K) / (1 – K)
Y = (1 – 0.32 – 0.34) / (1 – 0.34)
Y = 0.51
And the last step is Multiple each value by 100:
Cyan (C): 70
Magenta (M): 0
Yellow (Y): 51
Black (K): 34
RGB to CMYK conversion formula
The R, G, B values are divided by 255 to alter the range from 0.255 to 0.1. CMYK values are either as percentages or values between 0 and 1 (e.g. 50% = 0.5), while RGB values are whole numbers between 0 and 255.
R’ = R/255
G’ = G/255
B’ = B/255
The black (K) color is calculated from the red (R’), green (G’) and blue (B’):
K = 1-max (R’, G’, B’)
The cyan color (C) is calculated from the red (R’) and the black (K):
C = (1-R’-K) / (1-K)
The magenta color (M) is calculated from the green (G’) and the black (K):
M = (1-G’-K) / (1-K)
The yellow color (Y) is calculated from the blue (B’) and the black (K) colors:
Y = (1-B’-K) / (1-K)
